Volunteering at the library is for members only.
Membership is free for Pointe-Claire residents and for students attending a high school in Pointe-Claire.
A list of volunteer opportunities is available at the Children’s Info desk at Central Library or online on the Teen Zone blog.
Application forms are available online.
Applicants should receive a response within at most a week, if not, please verify receipt of the form with Radha, the teen services librarian.
Big Buddies are teen volunteers who encourage children (ages 7 to 10) to love reading by reading one-on-one together.
Training is provided for this activity, which spans the school year from mid-October to the beginning of April.
Reading sessions are one hour a week according to the availability of the Big and Little Buddies.
Participants in this activity can earn up to 22 volunteer hours.
This volunteer activity is a definite asset to a curriculum vitae (CV). Furthermore, a number of Big Buddies have received tutoring and babysitting job offers following participation in this activity.
Applicants must be willing to commit for the year in order to join this program.
This council is dedicated to the improvement of services offered to teens in collaboration with the Teen Services librarian.
Teens participate by selecting books for the teen collection, preparing themed displays, planning activities, and working on special projects as needed.
All participants must express their opinions in the council and actively participate.
Places are limited.
ASSISTING WITH CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
Teens earn volunteer hours by helping with a variety of children’s activities according to their availability.
Children’s activities include crafts, story hours, Lego® Club, scientific activities, family movies, etc.

Teens write a short book review online an receive 15 minutes of volunteer time. The reviews are not book summaries, but their opinion and why they have that opinion.

Teens earn volunteer hours by using their crafting and artistic skills to create themed decorations for the teen and children’s sections.
Teens earn volunteer hours and gain experience by helping with the Friends of the Library book sale. This semi-annual book sale happens in April and in October.
